Lathrop Compressor Station Update

A photo of the station taken after the flash fire was extinguished.

Our assessment of the damage to the Lathrop compressor station near Springville in Susquehanna County, Pa., following a flash fire yesterday is ongoing.

Preliminary visual assessment shows that the structure sustained the brunt of the damage, while equipment and flooring inside the structure remain in place.

All employees and contractors at the facility are accounted for and there were no injuries. Emergency shutdown equipment worked properly to isolate and minimize the incident, and emergency procedures were immediately activated.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation.

Lathrop compressor shut down

On Thursday, March 29 at approximately 11:40 a.m. Eastern Time, a fire occurred at Williams’ Lathrop compressor station near Springville in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania.

Emergency shutdown equipment worked properly to isolate and minimize the incident, and emergency procedures were immediately activated, which included notifying local authorities and evacuating all personnel.  Thankfully, all employees and contractors who were at the station at the time of the fire are safe and accounted for and there were no injuries resulting from this incident.  The station is now shut down.

The company’s top priority right now is ensuring the safety of our employees and the surrounding community, as well as cooperating with the local emergency responders.  Once it is safe to return to the station, we will begin a thorough investigation into the cause of this incident.

As we get new information, we will provide it.

We’re Now Expanding into West Virginia

Our affiliate Williams Partners announced a major acquisition that means we will be expanding even more in the Marcellus.

Williams’ Marcellus expansions.

In a deal valued at $2.5 billion, Williams Partners has agreed to purchase Caiman Eastern Midstream, a natural gas gathering system with pipelines and assets located mainly in the panhandle of West Virginia. This is good news that will mean more jobs in the Marcellus and support for those communities where we operate. Close to 50 Caiman employees will join us, but considerably more will be needed to support our high growth projections there and elsewhere in the region.

Last month, after closing on the acquisition of Laser Northeast Gathering System, we announced plans to create the Susquehanna Supply Hub, a large scale natural gas gathering hub in northeast Pennsylvania, along with the proposed Constitution interstate pipeline, which would move Marcellus gas to energy markets on the east coast. Additionally, there is currently an open season to gauge customer interest for the proposed Atlantic Access pipeline. The project would connect natural gas supplies originating in western West Virginia and Pennsylvania to valuable markets in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast and Gulf Coast regions.
